As the Phoenix rises out of the ashes and emerges new from something that has been destroyed; this is Lanzerac.
This wine estate has a very special place in my heart; it is where my passion for wine, food styling and photography started. My very first review and post on my blog was on my visit to Lanzerac. Last year however, Lanzerac experienced a devastating fire. My heart was shattered; it was as though a part of Stellenbosch history went up in flames. So, when I received an invitation to come and visit the refurbished hotel, I could not refuse. I was excited to see what they had done with this Iconic hotel.
The hotel underwent a massive rebuild. I was absolutely astonished at what they did with the place. Project coordinator and Designer, Con Van Der Colff did a fantastic job. This is a prime example of something good coming out of something bad and with the 5-star facilities comes 5-star service.
Upon arrival, this 5-star service kicked in. We were welcomed at our car by the valet who parked our car and our luggage taken to the room while we were immediately free to start the amazing Lanzarac experience beginning with the chocolate and wine pairing and the Heritage tasting. The tasting room is beautiful and there is a fireplace to ensure it is nice and cozy. The friendly and well-trained staff know their wines and we were once again impressed. Lanzerac Wines are top quality and unbelievable value for money.
After our wine tasting, we were chaperoned to our room by the concierge. When I walked into the room I was astonished. I could not help but giggle with glee as I couldn’t believe my eyes. The hotel rooms are so impressive. Each rooms is individually decorated with every detail taken into consideration. They are all very spacious and every little nook and corner have been done with the utmost consideration; It exudes luxury and style. They did not spare anything on comfort from underfloor heating, the best linen and bathrooms that you want to spend the whole day in. This is truly world class.
I was treated to go to the spa and it is simply glorious with magnificent views over the vineyards and mountains. We enjoyed the hydro facilities which is a must. The spa has a heated pool, steam & mist room, a jacuzzi, a sauna and a gym which are all available to guests during their stay.
The property has so much to offer. The Manor Kitchen is the main restaurant where hotel guests enjoy breakfasts and dinners but it is also open to the public. Chef Stephen prepares the most amazing food. The Lanzerac Deli also does light breakfasts, sandwiches, and cheese platters. The “Taphuis” Bar is an English style pub with the original fire place. They offer free canapés with your drinks every Friday from 17:00 – 19:00. The Craven lounge is the second bar with leather furniture, with a big selection of top class spirits and a tapas menu. It was a world class experience I will never forget.
